Policies are available in all 50 states and DC. PTZ Insurance Agency Ltd. administers these policies, and Independence American Insurance Company backs them.
Every policy includes a 14-day waiting period, the days between buying a plan and the start of coverage. For covered care, your plan pays 70% to 80% reimbursement once it is active. Reimbursement is the part of your vet bill that the company returns to you after a visit.
Wagmo pet insurance plans and cost
Choices include an accident-illness policy or accident-only coverage with an optional wellness add-on to cover routine checkups. The plan summary from the company does not list published sample monthly prices for particular pets or locations. The coverage settings you choose, plus your pet, determine what you pay each month.
At signup, pick a deductible, which you pay each year before your plan begins paying. The choices are $500, $750, or $1,000, and you also choose a 70% or 80% payback rate. Yearly payouts are capped at $20,000 per year on every plan.
A lower rate on insurance policies is available to households that have more than one pet. Wagmo offers 5% off for every additional pet you insure, with discounts totaling no more than 10%. Only insurance plans qualify for that discount; wellness coverage does not.
What Wagmo covers, and what it excludes
Whether you choose Wagmo dog insurance or a cat policy, unexpected injuries and illnesses are covered in part by the accident-illness plan. The policy covers several specific treatments in addition to standard medical care:
- Hereditary and congenital conditions that come from parents or exist from birth
- Care for behavior problems that have been diagnosed
- Alternative therapy options such as hydrotherapy and stem-cell therapy
Standard plans leave out spay and neuter procedures, but the wellness add-on covers routine care. No policy covers a pre-existing condition, which is any injury or illness affecting your pet before your coverage started. However, a waiver may cover most past conditions for members coming from a prior Wagmo plan, except knee and ligament issues.
Waiting periods and age limits at Wagmo
Coverage doesn't begin on the day you pay for your policy. Before vet bills qualify for payment, every covered condition has the same waiting period:
- 14 days for accidents
- For illnesses, the wait is 14 days.
- 14 days for orthopedic conditions of waiting
- For cruciate ligament injuries, the wait is 14 days.
Health issues that emerge during those early days become pre-existing conditions. Orthopedic and cruciate ligament issues follow the same timeline, so joint coverage begins when general illness coverage begins.
Senior pets can still sign up for a new plan. Since pets of any age can enroll, senior dogs and cats qualify no matter how old they are.
Reimbursement and claims at Wagmo
Pay the clinic yourself after the visit, then submit your receipt to receive payment. You can submit claims through the Wagmo app on the Apple App Store and Google Play, or through the company website.
After you submit your claim, it typically takes 24 hours or less. With eligible bills, the plan first subtracts the remaining amount of your yearly deductible. After that, payments follow the reimbursement percentage you chose and stop at the yearly payout limit.
Who Wagmo works for
Senior dogs and cats are good candidates here: no upper age limit applies when you sign up. It also suits breeds prone to hereditary or congenital issues, along with animals needing hydrotherapy or stem-cell therapy. If you want quick claims through an app and an optional wellness add-on, both are available.
You might look elsewhere for a yearly payout cap that's higher, or a deductible that's smaller. A payback rate higher than the 70% to 80% range also means you need another insurer. Finally, an ongoing illness in your pet won't be covered unless you are moving from a prior Wagmo policy.
Questions people often ask
Is it worth it to choose Wagmo pet insurance?
A good match depends on how old your pet is and which treatments you want covered. You get clear advantages if your pet is a senior, or if you want coverage for alternative therapies such as hydrotherapy and stem-cell therapy. Before you sign up, make sure the $20,000 yearly cap and your deductible choices work for your emergency vet care budget.
Does Wagmo pet insurance pay for pre-existing conditions?
New policies don't cover medical conditions that began before your coverage started or during the waiting period. Members who transfer from an earlier Wagmo plan may have a waiver for most conditions, which is an exception to the general rule. Knee and ligament conditions remain excluded even with that waiver.
How can you get a Wagmo pet insurance quote?
For a dog or cat in 50 states and DC, you can begin a quote through the Wagmo website. Exact signup steps aren't in the published plan facts, but you'll select accident-illness or accident-only coverage. Alongside those choices, you pick a deductible and reimbursement rate and decide about a wellness add-on.
