How We Compare Pet Insurance
Pet Insurance Compare is a comparison website that presents published plan terms for US dog and cat coverage side by side.
Selling, quoting, and binding insurance aren't services we provide. We also aren't an insurer, insurance agent, or broker. Our site provides general information, not advice in insurance, legal, financial, or veterinary matters. Your insurer's policy documents always determine what the policy covers.
To see plans or prices, you never have to send a plan request. When you send a request, it reaches an insurance agency chosen for your pet. That agency may pay us. Insurers cannot use payments to alter their terms, their position in a list, or what we say about them.
The source of our facts
We publish each insurer's plan terms using documents released by that insurer, and every fact links to its source. To determine state pet insurance law status, we consult state statutes, state regulators, and records of NAIC model acts. The national average premiums are sourced from NAPHIA.
Over time the terms of a plan shift, and the insurer's own policy and documents settle what coverage applies. Our links to insurers, regulators, and studies point to outside sites, and we have no control over them.
How we build the comparison table
For every insurer, we show the same plan terms, including price examples, enrollment ages, exclusions, and the core rules for coverage:
- Before a plan begins paying, the deductible is the amount you pay.
- Reimbursement: the portion of a covered vet bill paid back by the plan.
- Annual limit: the highest amount a plan contributes to covered care in one policy period.
- The waiting period: the time between buying a policy and the start of coverage.
Every listed value links to the published source it comes from. We leave a term blank when its insurer doesn't publish it, rather than guess.
The order of insurers
In the plan finder, insurers appear first when they publish a price based on your pet's breed, age, and species. The lowest price comes first among them. Then come insurers that don't publish a price for your pet, shown without one. Payment can't secure an insurer a place in a list or changes to its plan terms.
Corrections
If you find a plan term that is wrong or outdated, contact us at hello@pet-insurance-compare.com and include the page and source. We compare your report with the insurer's own published documents, then correct the page. You can contact us by email only. The business that provides the site as is appears at the foot of every page. We aren't liable for losses caused by using the site or by decisions based on it, as far as the law allows.
